Picnicking in Seattle with Sorbabes

Seattle’s best kept secret? Our summers.

While the rest of the country imagines our city gray with a constant rainfall — thanks, Twilight — the locals know. When the days get longer, after the cherry blossoms have fallen, we will get rewarded. One of the things we relished the most: leveling up our picnic game. We live in a gorgeous part of the country and taking in the beauty while dining al fresco was the perfect summer activity.

Most of our activities revolve around food in some shape or form and planning what we were going to eat was our main priority!

  • Charcuterie board - putting together an impressive spread outside can be daunting. These are our suggestions for making your next picnic a little easier.

    • Pre-sliced cured meats from Salumi

    • Cheese from Beecher’s

    • Quick and easy option: pick up a few cones from DeLaurenti at Pike Place Market. Everything is pre-selected from the cheese, crackers, and meat.

  • Beverages - What’s a picnic without some bevvies?

  • Dessert - Our favorite part in any summer outing! At this point, there was only the quick and easy option in our eyes: Sorbabes Fruit Bars. Listen. It gets hot outside. After a few trips to the car and setting up, you’ll get sweaty. You may get a little hangry. You better believe we deserved to have dessert first and we certainly did! While running about town, we picked up the Wildberry Crisp and Mango Coconut Crunch bars and sitting down at our beautifully laid table, taking that first bite was so worth it. The outer shell gave us a great contrast to the creamy sorbet enveloped inside. We love supporting women-owned businesses and we do so simply by buying Sorbabes.

We’ll say it first, you’re welcome. We did some location scouting and recommend checking out these spots to lay down your blanket:

  • Gas Works Park - Whether you’re closer to the water or towards the top of the hill, you’ll get a fantastic view of Seattle’s skyline.

  • Alki Beach - For those who don’t mind a bit of sand getting everywhere, Alki is one of our favorite spots to watch the sunset.

  • Bhy Kracke Park - Where we picknicked! It’s smaller and more secluded, but we still get those skyline views.

Food? Check. Location? Check. What do you need?

  • Blankets - Layering is key,

  • Cushions

  • Collapsible picnic table

  • Table cloth/runner

  • Lighting

  • Cutlery, napkins, serving platter/charcuterie board

  • Decor - We opted for flowers

While it certainly takes some planning, it’s a memorable way to enjoy the outdoors with friends or that special someone in your life. We would love to see how your picnic turned out!
